National University of Ireland's Deri Group is Committed to Researching the Semantic Web

The Irish Times has an intriguing write-up of the Digital Enterprise Research Institute (Deri) at the National University of Ireland, Galway. Deri is the largest applied research organization at work on technologies advancing and using the Semantic Web. With state-funding, considerable previous successes, expert advisement from Sir Tim Berners-Lee, and a staff of 130 researchers, Deri reports ongoing headway in Semantic Web development.

Recently, Deri has captured some international attention thanks to the creation of the semantic program Sioc (pronounced "shuck"). The program has found a home within the Obama administration where it's being used to identify keywords and trends on the economics-focused Recovery.gov website.
