Yahoo! Pushing Common Tag. So What Is Common Tag?

Search Engine Land takes a hard-nosed, practical approach to understanding and explaining what all the noise from Yahoo! about "Common Tag" actually means.

Yahoo! has been talking a lot about a new tagging format, which it turns out is really just an applied use of RDFa.  Like Google, Yahoo! is dipping a toe in the Semantic Web pool.  Their goals aren't immediately obvious, but Vanessa Fox at Search Engine Land makes a few well-informed guesses.

Click through for a reasoned, but sceptical view to balance against the admittedly vague hype coming from the search engine's pitch-men.

I've CommonTag enabled my website.  I think the documentation is scarce,  so I'm not 100% sure if I implemented it correctly.  Only time will tell I guess!

But I'm wanting to support standards as much as possible for a little website. --Ken

I also found the documentation kind of scarce...it'll be interesting to see whether Common Tag emerges as a real standard. Good to see Google and Yahoo positioning themselves to fight it out in SemWeb.

Hopefully someone will put out a decent validator so people can check conformance -- that is, assuming the spec itself is written well enough to enable it....
